AI Governance & AI Policy

What actually governs AI in Bangladesh right now — a national policy in development, and the general law that applies in the meantime.

Policy is not legislation

Bangladesh does not currently have an enacted AI Act. What exists is a national AI policy in development. This page separates policy in development from enacted law, and will never present a draft as binding legislation.

Current position

  • National Artificial Intelligence Policy 2026–2030 (Draft V2.0)

    Draft — not enacted

A draft national policy framework for AI development, deployment and governance across the economy and public institutions. It is a policy document under development — not a statute, and not enforceable as law.

Stage: Draft released for public review in February 2026. The public consultation phase has concluded and responses are being reviewed. Final adoption is a separate step that has not been recorded here.

  • Enacted AI statute

    Under review

Until an enacted AI statute appears at the official source, AI activity in Bangladesh is governed by general law — including the cyber security and personal data protection instruments listed under Legal & Compliance — rather than by a dedicated AI Act.

Stage: No enacted AI Act of Bangladesh has been identified at the official statute source as of the last verification date.

How BD AI governs its own AI

BD AI has no role in the national policy process. Its own commitments are its responsibilities alone: answers are generated from a reviewed knowledge base with the source shown, an AI answer is never presented as an official government decision, and a person can always be reached instead. Those commitments are set out on Responsible AI and Identity & answer policy. The statutes that apply to it in the meantime are indexed on Legal & Compliance.
